Work Experience | Ed Stewart

We’re proud to highlight the work experience Ed completed during his time with Colonial…

Ed is a year 10 student from from Guilsborough Academy, with an interest in the construction industry. During his experience with us, Ed had the opportunity to work at three sites, Castle Ashby, WNC County Hall and Guildhall and Beatrice Road. This allowed Ed to gain experience at three different sites through their varied stages of development.

At Castle Ashby, Ed was taken on a walkthrough of both the Treatment Rooms and Cottage 25 to review the progress of works on site. Our surveyor, Jason Edmunds, also discussed with Ed the importance of identifying and accurately reporting any amendments to the schedule. Ed also assisted in preparing contractor reports and RFI schedules for the upcoming meetings.

At WNC County Hall and Guildhall, Ed was given the opportunity to attend a meeting relating to the roofing works being carried out on site. This gave Ed insight into the commercial and contractual considerations involved in the construction industry, including cost reviews and collaboration between stakeholders.

At Beatrice Road, Ed was given a joint tour of the site alongside our clients, Jo Pettitt (CEO) and Kirsty Woods (Financial Manager/Deputy CEO). Ed also worked alongside one of our project managers, Adam Pike, in measuring mastic requirements for the apartments. Adam also provided Ed with an overview of the construction industry, along with a thorough insight into Colonial’s operations.

Ed was also introduced to our health and safety processes through the Vision portal by another one of our project managers, Robin Wilson, gaining an understanding for our site procedures and compliance requirements.

As a company we are extremely proud to be able to support the development of future talent within the construction industry, helping to build their skills and confidence through on-site experience.
